My laptop came with (and currently has) 4 GB RAM installed, and I'd like to upgrade it if possible. Just want to clarify it can be done before purchasing the memory and opening the machine: I have the Maintenance and Service guide (manual) for the notebook: on page 2 of the service guide ("product specifications" section) - under the MEMORY section, it says "Two SODIMM memory module slots, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable. Supports up to 12-GB of system memory". However, later in the manual on page 62 it shows the instructions on how to access and upgrade the memory. I am confused here why on page 1 specifications it says the memory is "non accessible" and "non upgradable" when it provides the instructions for how to do it later in the manual? Just want to be certain.
I would like to clarify that the memory can be upgraded before I purchase the memory sticks and open the machine up. Hoping this is straightforward. Appreciate any help! thanks.

Crucial says it will go to 16GB
Actually, if it has WIN10 and a new enough processor, it will probably address 32GB or more.
The reason your service manual says that is because the manual is for "technicians" and we mere consumers aren't supposed to be cracking these things open. (didn't stop me, btw)
Back just a few years ago, many laptops had a door to easily access the memory slots for consumers to change memory cards.
