Need proper cable to connect new HP Pavillion 17 - ar050wm laptop to Canon MP620 printer. Lost printer driver & can't setup via wireless. Can a C-Type USB port on the HP be used to connect a printer or does one have to use the USB SS ports?

Unlike with USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 and USB 3.1, type-C is only a connector type, and the underlying USB version can be any of these mentioned.
If you have a cable to connect that port to your printer, it should work-- but you really need to contact Canon support, if for nothing else, than getting current Windows device drivers and printer software -- as installing the latter generally automatically installs the correct drivers for the connection.
Good Luck
