I got myself an EATON Ellipse ECO 1600 UPS but i don't know if it is safe to plug my laptop into it to have a surge protection. Is it safe to do or rather don't?

In general, using a battery backup device is safe.

We have battery backup units in our home office - one for each side of the office. On my side, I have connected my Zbook 17 G3.  The backup unit provides battery backup, surge, and low voltage protection.

We also employ the use of a different type of battery backup unit for our entertainment devices (those located in a separate room).

It is better that the unit also provide low-voltage protection so if the power from the source (outlet) drops below a certain voltage, the unit will "up" the voltage to the required parameters.

In practice, assuming you decide to use the battery backup, consider plugging the ZBook (and other critical devices) into the actual battery backup (if / as desired) and plug in any external monitors into the part of the unit that provides surge / voltage drop control without the battery.
