Hi all. I have a problem with my laptop. When the coolers start, a cracking sound is heard, similar to the sound of a hard drive starting (the laptop has an ssd), this problem appeared immediately after purchasing the laptop along with vibration of the left cooler. The laptop was repaired at a service center, the coolers were replaced with new ones, but the sound remained. Otherwise the laptop works perfectly. Is this sound normal for my laptop or not? Thanks for the answer.

Hi @Loonny,Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the cracking sound from your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The cracking sound accompanied by vibration from the left cooler in your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop after a fan replacement is concerning, especially since your laptop has an SSD (which should be silent). Here's how to address this issue:

1. Check for Loose Components or Cables

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect from power.
  • If comfortable, remove the bottom panel (refer to the service manual) to inspect the fan area.
  • Ensure all screws are tightened, and cables are secured.
  • Gently press around the fan housing to ensure it’s securely in place.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run a System Test with a focus on the Fan and Thermal test.
  • If an error code appears, note it down for HP Support.

Adjust Fan Settings via HP Command Center

  • Open HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub.
  • Set the fan speed to Quiet Mode or Custom Mode to see if the sound changes or diminishes.
  • Monitor temperatures using HWMonitor or Core Temp to ensure the laptop isn’t overheating in quieter modes.

4. Check for BIOS Updates

  • Go to the HP Support Website and check for the latest BIOS update for your model.
  • Installing the latest BIOS can resolve fan control issues.

5. Monitor Fan Behavior in Different Scenarios

  • Test the laptop under various loads:
    • Idle (no apps running)
    • Medium load (web browsing, streaming)
    • High load (gaming, rendering)
  • Note if the cracking sound or vibration is constant or only under specific loads.

6. Consider Environmental Factors

  • Ensure the laptop is on a flat, hard surface with adequate ventilation.
  • Check for obstructions around the fan intake/exhaust areas.

Let me know how it goes, and feel free to reach out if you have concerns and need assistance.

1. The laptop has no traces of dirt, everything is installed correctly, there is no dust.

2. There is no fan item in the diagnostics, all other tests pass without errors.

3. The laptop makes this sound when the coolers start up always, in any mode, even in the BIOS.

4. The latest version of BIOS is installed, as well as the latest version of all drivers

5. The cooler crackles only at startup, there is no sound at any speed, no vibration either.

6. The laptop is on a gaming stand for coolers, the sound is preserved in any position and on any surface.

Any good advice or should I take it to the service again?
