Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi All

Need your help for the following problem associated with the cooling fan of my notebook that I am experiencing for the last few days. The notebook I am using is almost 5 yrs old now. It is HP DV6 6154tx.

The problem is that whenever I switch on my notebook, I hear a noise coming out from the vents of cooling fan. It sounds as if a small mixer grinder is powered on. The intensity of noise ranges from weak to sufficiently moderate level for the entire period of notebook functioning. This noise makes the notebook to heat up around the area of cooling fan from outside after just 5 minutes of working on it and the heat along with noise continues until I switch off the notebook. The system does not stop functioning nor does it blink during the noise, heat period. But I feel that all this has perhaps caused the notebook to slow down a bit.

I generally use the system for internet surfing and my official works apart from watching movies sometimes. On average, it amounts to approx 3 -4 hrs of daily usage. I don't play games on the notebook.

After experiencing the noise and heat, I did initial first aid of the notebook to remove the noise and heat. I cleaned the entire system from inside and outside including the fan and other components. Separated the fan from sink, took it out and switched on the notebook. The noise was actually and still coming out from the fan itself. I could see and hear it right in front of my eyes. The fan was making noise whie it continued to spin. Then I looked for an update of BIOS but the system was already updated with the latest one.

I have taken backup but still worried about any probable future physical damage that may happen to the system.

What can I do to resolve this problem ?

TIA

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Those laptop fans use bearings for smooth rotation, and over time, those bearing wear out.  I have two laptops, both over 5 years old, and I've already replaced the fans in both of them.

Since you have the fan out, you've done most of the really hard work already!

If you can't read the part number on the fan, then use this link and your laptop information to find the part number:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/mo...

Once you have that, you might be able to order the fan from HP; but , you could also check for online laptop parts suppliers and order the fan from them.  Last time I did this, I think I spent around $25 USD for a fan.

Good Luck

Hi WAWood

Thanks for the prompt reply. I tried looking for the required spare part against my notebook model viz HP PAVILION  DV6154TX entertainment notebook  PC through the link you provided but could not find it.

From where can I order the fan for my notebook ? Please provide the link if you are aware.

Thanks again

also, do I need to buy the cooling fan along with heat sink or just cooling fan will be sufficient ?

Installed a new CPU fan in the laptop. The problem is solved now. There is no noise, however the exhaust vents throw out hot air when the laptop is working. I feel since the fan is new so the hot air issue should not be there. Is it normal ? Or do I need to worry. Thanks again for your help.
