Hi,

If the fan does not work and the PC is overheating you will have to replace the fan. This happens quite often after time.

You could check with a free trial program such as AIDA 64 extreme the temps of the system and see if the fan stops when the system is stressed. Perform a system stability test.

https://www.aida64.com/downloads

The part nmumber for the fan is 641839-001 and you can find for good prize online.

Example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-HP-641839-001-Elitebook-8460p-8460w-CPU-Cooling-Fan-KSB0505HB-/1...

In the service manual on page 90 you can see how the fan is replaced.

You could also try to see if Bios is updated to latest version. Read the details carefully.

Hope it helps,

Hi,

It is normal for a fan to not continously work.

It should work when the PC is hot. When you perform the system test with AIDA64 what are the temps of the CPU cores?

If the temperatures are in the norm it could be that the fan is only powering on when needed. If you want the fan to always be on there should be the option in BIOS to have fan always on.

Let me know,

David

Hi,

Those temperatures are high. I would get the fan looked at by technician and replaced since the cost is not so high.

Hope it helps,

David
