when I turn on my laptop on I am getting a message that my bettery in counterfeit, what does this mean as the battery has not been changed.

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 15-d5000 laptop is displaying a "counterfeit battery" error, it indicates there could be an Outdated BIOS or Battery Firmware issue.
Please try the BIOS Restore and if the issue persists, please install the new version of BIOS F.24 Rev.A and check.
BIOS Restore:
1) Shutdown the computer, keep the charger plugged
2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B button until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow on-screen instructions and click on OK
Try the new BIOS F.24 Rev.A from the HP website and let me know how it works.
