HP Laptop - 15-dw2000ua 3M811EA

Good evening, I would like to ask for help. I have an HP Laptop 15-dw2xxx with a QuadCore Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor, which normally runs at 3300 MHz (33 x 100). When I'm gaming, the processor is running at 1000 MHz and everything functions without problems - the game doesn't slow down and runs fine. However, when I plug in the charger, a strange phenomenon happens: after a few minutes, the CPU frequency drops to 400 MHz, causing significant lag and latency. After about five minutes the problems disappear, the CPU frequency goes back to 1000 MHz, but then after a while it drops again and this cycle repeats. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems like you're experiencing some power management or thermal throttling issues with your HP laptop. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

 

Power Settings:

  • Open the Power Options on your laptop.
  • Make sure your power plan is set to "High Performance" when the laptop is plugged in. This ensures that the system prioritizes performance over power savings.
  • You can access Power Options by right-clicking on the battery icon in the system tray and selecting "Power Options."

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers and chipset drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP website or use HP Support Assistant to check for updates.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP support website. BIOS updates often include improvements to system stability and performance.

Thermal Management:

  • Overheating can lead to thermal throttling. Ensure that your laptop vents are not blocked, and there's proper airflow.
  • Consider using a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat.

Disable CPU Throttling:

  • Open the Power Options.
  • Change the advanced power settings.
  • Look for settings related to CPU throttling and set them to 100% to ensure the CPU runs at its maximum frequency.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Make sure there are no unnecessary background processes consuming CPU resources. Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to check for resource-intensive applications.

HP Command Center:

  • Some HP laptops come with software like HP Command Center, which allows you to control system performance. Check if there are settings in this software that could be impacting CPU performance.

Reset Power Plan:

  • Create a new power plan or reset your existing power plan to default settings. This can sometimes resolve issues related to power management settings.

Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates.

 

Remember to backup important data before performing any major updates or changes to your system.
