Hello, @Nakkeeran1 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for reaching out! I’d like to help!

I see that you are having issues with the notebook keyboard where the letter "D" is not working. Let’s start to diagnose the issue by updating the notebook drivers. Try the steps below to update the keyboard drivers:

  • In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  • Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
  • Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
  • Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
  • Restart the notebook and check.

Also, check http://hp.care/2eAwv2U and try following the steps listed under "Stuck notebook key" for the "D" key. It might help you clean the "D" key.

If the issue still persists, I need to know whether the key works in the command prompt or not. Press Windows logo key + R to get the run window. Type cmd and press ok to get the command prompt window. Type D and see if that gives you any results.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Thank you and have a great day!

Cheers 🙂

Hi @Nakkeeran1,

I reviewed the case comprehensively. Brilliant troubleshooting. Great effort and persistence to try and resolve the issue.

Please try  these steps and check if the "D" works in the command prompt outside of windows by following these steps:

  • Power down the unit. When you power it back up, immediately tap the F11 key gently several times.
  • It takes you to recovery manager. Here please select the option “Troubleshoot”. Then please select “Advanced options “ and  “command prompt”
  • Type all the keyboard characters in this black window especially the keys that do not work correctly.
  • If F11 does not take you to recovery manager, please keep tapping the “ESC” gently several times the instant you power on the unit. It takes you to the startup menu and you could press F11 from there to go to recovery manager.

If the letter "D" does not work here, then it is a hardware issue with the keyboard. Please contact HP phone support to get the keyboard replaced or the computer serviced.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.  🙂

Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your response.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Replace the keyboard.

Access:  http://support.hp.com

Enter your model-number and do a search

You should see a page that allows you to download a "manual".

Select the "Service and Maintenance" manual.

Open that PDF.

Read through it, to find the part-number for your keyboard.

Access: http://PartSurfer.HP.com

Enter the part-number, to see if you can purchase a replacement keyboard.

Take your new keyboard, and your laptop, to a qualified computer technician, for a proper [partial] disassembly of your laptop, replacement of the keyboard, reassembly, and testing.
