Am unsure if your newer optical disk drive has an ejection hole.

Older model DVD Re-writers could be manually opened by putting a straightened paper clip in and opening it with a push.

The grinding noise is a bad sign. The gears are mostly plastic.

The replacement part information is

HP L22537-001ODD DVDWR 9.0

Even WalMart sells the HP optical disk drive. See the link in the search I did.

The obsolescence date was Jan 31, 2021 so not in warranty. Replacement is likely to be the best plan. Should be simple to find a replacement.

How to replace the ODD.

Try removing the screw I pointed to in the following image first. Once removed you should be able to slide the optical disk drive out of the laptop. One the drive is removed you can get the disk out and even use the notebook without the ODD being installed.

if this works there will be no further disassembly requiredif this works there will be no further disassembly required

The DVD ReWriter will be in the place to the right hand side of the laptop enclosure.   Don't use a metal object to open the notebook unless you like scratches on your notebook. Find a plastic pry tool or use an expired credit card instead. Once you have the ODD out of the laptop you can remove the disc that is inside at your leisure.
