How about using the Task Manager to see which processes or services are eating up all of your processor cycles.

 

I will give it one last try. It seems for some strange reason you won't provide any detailed information on the SD card.

very sorry, this was not intentionally, I simply overlooked that question. The SD card is a SanDisk Extreme PRO 200MB/s SDXC V30, 64 GB.

 

Of course checking the task manager was the first thing I did. Obviously Windows Explorer is using most resources that when it comes to the moment when the writing process to the SSD freezes, the resource usage from Windows Explorer also goes down to very low values.

I just did a full test cycle, transferring 1,900 image files from the SD card to the SSD via the type-C USB port. This indeed makes a difference. Though the transfer rate goes down to zero every few seconds, the time frame that the SSD write speed freezes to zero is much shorter than before when using the type-A port. So this is not ideal, but something I can live with.

 

Just still wondering why writing to the SSD seems to me so much slower than reading the files from the SD card. The profile of the file transfer of all the 1,900 files looks like in the screenshot attached (small window right-bottom; ssd-freeze-type-c-full-cycle.jpgthe deep valleys in the graph are the situations where the SSD freezes).

 

It starts smoothly, then smaller break-downs appear and the longer the transfer operation last, the longer the SSD freezes (i.e. 100%) are (see last third) while the SD card at the same time is only at around 3% during these seconds.
