I need to know whether my laptop recharging adapter cable includes a built in surge protector or do I need to provide an external one. I purchased the laptop 3/18/20.

Hi:

Your PC does not come with any built in fuses or surge protectors in the body of the PC or the power supply.

You will need to plug your PC into an external surge protector.

Strange - I asked the same question of HP support and received an answer that a surge surpressor was included in all AC adapters in the time period I purchased my computer. What do I do now?

I've never heard of such a thing.

If that is what HP is telling you then I would go with what they indicate.

If it were me, I would make sure my notebook was plugged into a decent surge protector whenever possible.

Actually, I contacted HP support and was advised that all laptop AC adapters have come with built-in surge protectors for a few years. What gave me the idea is that I was looking for a second adapter to use for traveling and the ad included the statement that it had a built-in surge protector so I wanted to know if the one that came with the computer that I purchased in March also had it. I was assured that it did.
