If your notebook has an Intel Core processor, it does support a M.2 NVMe SSD.

it's intel core i5 10th gen laptop and it has a slot but i can't tell whether its for sata or m.2

Yes, if your notebook has an Intel 10th gen i5 processor, it supports NVMe SSD's.

 

HP only has the service manual for the previous model 15-da1xxx model series with the Intel 8th gen core processors, but even those models support M.2 NVMe SSDs.

 

See chapter 1, page 3.
