HP Pavilion 14-CE0820ND

hi,

a 14 inch laptop of my sister in law has been getting very warm while doing minor tasks such as netflix or youtube watching. (not sure if those are minor, but seems to me it shouldn't be a problem)

After opening the laptop it appears as though there is space for 2 fans (only one fan however is installed by default) I wasn't able to find any dual fans for this model but still wonder if that is a possibility? could anyone direct me at the right part number or is that not possible?

There are supposed to be two fans installed. edited on 02/17/23

Is the notebook still in warranty?

I can provide you with the fan part number in a few minutes.
Done!

Description and HP part number( the part number depends on whether the notebook has discrete graphics or not) Yours does not!

For use only on computer models equipped with a graphics subsystem with UMA memory L19160-001

You might need a screw kit unless you happen to have compatible fan screws in your twenty year box of screws(if you have one 😉)

Thank you Erico, for your quick response.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, i usually do everything on my phone, but HP website doesn't work well in Safari browser on my iPhone.

Looking at the model of the laptop i see that you found the part, but then again it is just a singular replacement fan, and not a dual fan as you said at the beginning of your post. So does that mean dual fans installation is not possible?

The laptop has no discreet graphics as far as i know (UMA?)

The link to the HP support portal doesn't work, gives me a 403 error by the way

Indeed, it is a single fan.
If you can hear the fan running, then it is still working.
It might need  the dust cleaned from the blades or the fins in the intake/exhaust port.

The support website link still works for me, although it is a limited subset of what I find normally. It may not work on Safari browser. I always have three or four browsers available in case one does not display properly or shows errors when I know my internet is OK.

cleaning the vents and the blades of the fan were indeed already done. Laptop still heats up. I wonder if adding 16gb RAM would help with the heating issue since CPU has to do less work allocating memory?

HP Recommended

Actually adding more memory wouldn't really help.

What do you consider to be warm?

Whenever I find my 13" notebook getting warm on my lap, I use my Amazon Essentials laptop stand.

More ventilation, even static standing air, does help.

- I'm only judging from the words of my sister in law, Got some pictures of the internals and that's about it. Haven't felt how hot it gets actually, could be that it's normal. Can't be too good for the internals of course if it near fries the motherboard, but i doubt that's the case. Laptop stays reasonably snappy in carrying out its tasks, just the heating issue seems to be an annoyance. Furthermore, fan doesn't make any strange sounds, simply works as intended.

Using a stand for the laptop was already suggested to her, but she carries this laptop with her quite often and taking an extra stand to keep the laptop cooler is not the best solution in this case.

In any case, it is clear to me dual fan installation is out of the question and is not possible. And if it were, then it requires some custom adjustment or using a dual fan from a different manufacturer intended for different models. Even though the space and the pin connector is available for the second fan on the motherboard

Hmm. I would consider a CPU temp over 85-90C to be pretty warm.

If the CPU gets to the temp limit it will shut itself down. Self protection is a good thing.

Usually a laptop would be pretty warm then as well.

The one downside I know of with small (=<14") laptop/ultrabooks is that they do become warm in one's lap.  I opt for table/desk/laptop stand when that happens.

There are fanless Celeron/Arm/Pentium versions that run pretty cool, but the tradeoff is performance.
