Please use a free tool (2nd on the following list) to see what it can do. Have you tried different brand and type ?

See the Service Manual on p. 22. Stated to have Multi-Layer write support so follow the advice to run the diagnostic on its capability. Dual layer never caught on well because on a good day its difficult to get working right. I have spoiled a lot of dual layer rewritables and it is very brand sensitive. Some media is better than others in terms of reliability of burning.

What are you doing and how does it fail? What burning software are you using? What brand of media? What are you trying to burn onto the DVDs? The hard part was getting the burning program to make the jump to the second layer. That is how it always failed for me and if I got 50% of them to burn right I felt lucky. Dual layer DVD holds 9.4 gigs and costs as much as a 16 gig thumb drive these days.
