I have seen two mentions that G9 finally(!) support 2242 nvme ssd in wwan slot. Can I get confirmation this is really the case of elite 840 too?

Vl4d, it's a well known fact that the G9s support second storage in the WWAN slot (according to their respective manuals).

If you carefully read my post in the second thread you linked to https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-855-G7-SSD-in-WWA..., I said "successful dual storage system (m.2 in wwan slot) in the current G9 probook/6xx elitebook series."

Unfortunately this does not include any other G9s (since I checked their manuals). It's obvious that the ssd-in-wwan is only for the PROBOOK G9s, and the 6xx elitebook model line is actually a rebranded probook 6xxG8 -that's why it's the only one to also sport a wwan-ssd.

erico EXPERT Level 17, the advice that Valsimot provided in the thread was NOT good advice. I had my 650 G9 (officially) fitted with a 256gb ssd in the WWAN slot before buying it from a HP authorized reseller. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-840-G6-SSD-in-WWA...

Your Elitebook 840 G9 has support for PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD with the 2280 format in the standard M.2 SSD slot.

I have found no mention of SSD support in the WWAN slot for your notebook.

The advice that @Valsimot  provided in the thread was good advice.

Well i linked 2 mentions of ssds in G9 HPs, but ok, i get your point about there is no trusting hp with whitelisting.

I think you made an assumption.

I made no kind of statement or point about "there is no trusting hp with whitelisting."

Ok, I think I misread your post so I thought it applies to other g9

If I compare

https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_5716060_en-US-1.pdf

and

https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_5816250_en-US-1.pdf

it says 2nd solid-state drive, only available on models without WWAN in Primary storage for the 640 g9 and not for the 840 g9.

Then i the 840 it does have things like camera and what not in the primary storage section, weird, but you are right, that this is the best we get as actual info from the HP and I do not really fell like trying if it does some miracle work, because hp forgot to add white listing or not.

It was what i would "expert" advice to be 😄 Also I think, well pretty sure, it is GPT based robot.

thank you

AFFIRMATIVE.

Let's not forget that Skynet became self-aware at 2:14 a.m., EDT, on August 29, 1997.

But seriously, just because HP doesn't officially support SSDs in the wwan slot on most models, this doesn't mean that there haven't been any successful efforts. As described in the last thread I linked to.

I don't really feel like buying the laptop, trying it out, i do not thing i even have ssd of such small size laying round, so i would need to use regular 2280 to try it out, and then the chances of it working, knowing history of hp whitelisting are very slim.

Otherwise 840 g9 would tick all the boxes for my next laptop.

But i will go with clevo or tongfang where there are no whitelisting shenanigans.

Storage doesn't have whitelisting.

erico EXPERT Level 17 posted about this above. When you plug SSDs in the WWAN slots of HP laptops, the BIOS sees them A-OK, but Windows (or Linux as far as I know) can't use them (most of the time) as storage devices. Whitelisting pertains to the wireless cards.

How come windows or linux can't use correctly recognized device as storage?
