Microsoft Windows 11

jMy computer has been working great with no issues, I have been connection to 2 ultra 4k 32inch monitors.  Recently I purchased a Hp g4 docking station because when i searched for compatible dock, that's what came up for HP.  Since connection this doc to my computer it will not connect to the display on my usbc port, also the doc would not display anything on the screens, it was only an extension for the usb port, it didn't work.  Has the doc changed the driver for the port, or has done some sort of damage to my usbc port.  Device manager show's a connection to a billboard device when the monitor is plugged in just nothing on the display

Help, what do i need to do to fix my computer

Hi @zxrgrerg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with your HP Envy x360's USB-C port not functioning correctly for video output after connecting it to an HP G4 docking station. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Check Docking Station Compatibility

  • Ensure the docking station is indeed compatible with your HP Envy x360 model. While you mentioned it appeared compatible, double-checking HP's official documentation or contacting HP support could prevent any compatibility misunderstandings.

2. Inspect Hardware Connections

  • Double-check all physical connections, including the USB-C cable between the docking station and your laptop and the connections between the docking station and your monitors. Sometimes, issues arise simply from loose or improperly connected cables.

3. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Update Docking Station Drivers: Check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for the HP G4 docking station.
  • Update Laptop's USB-C/Thunderbolt Drivers: Go to HP's official website, find your model, and check for any USB-C or Thunderbolt controller driver updates. Installing the latest drivers can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Reinstall USB-C Port Drivers: In Device Manager, you can try uninstalling the USB-C port driver and then restarting your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver upon reboot.

4. Check Display Settings

  • Navigate to Display Settings (right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings") to ensure the monitors are detected. Sometimes, you may need to manually enable the external displays.

5. Monitor and Docking Station Settings

  • Ensure the monitors are set to the correct input source that corresponds to the connection used on the docking station.
  • If the docking station has its own software or settings, ensure they are correctly configured for dual monitor setup.

6. Test USB-C Port for Other Uses

  • Test the USB-C port with another device, like a phone or USB-C flash drive, to ensure the port itself is functioning correctly. This can help determine if the issue is with video output specifically or the port in general.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
