Hi @AbhinavGardia,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the F2 key on your HP 15s laptop is not working, it might be due to several reasons, such as a software issue, a problem with the keyboard itself, or settings that need adjustment. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check if Function Lock (Fn Lock) is Enabled

Some laptops require you to hold down the Fn key to use the function keys (F1, F2, etc.) for their secondary functions (like brightness control).

  • Toggle Fn Lock: Try pressing the Fn key and Esc key simultaneously. This combination toggles the function lock on and off on many HP laptops.

2. Adjust Settings in BIOS

Make sure the function keys are set to work as expected in the BIOS settings.

  • Enter BIOS: Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly as it starts up to enter the BIOS settings.
  • Navigate to the System Configuration: Look for an option like Action Keys Mode or Function Key Behavior.
  • Set the Keys to Default Functions: Make sure this is set so that the function keys perform their primary functions without needing to press Fn.

3. Update Keyboard Driver

Updating the keyboard driver can sometimes resolve issues with function keys.

  • Open Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Locate Keyboards: Expand the Keyboards section.
  • Update Driver: Right-click on the keyboard device and select Update driver. Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Check HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can help with driver updates and troubleshooting.

  • Open HP Support Assistant: Search for and open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
  • Check for Updates: Run the assistant to check for any available updates for your laptop, including keyboard drivers and system firmware.

5. Use Windows Troubleshooter

Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help resolve hardware issues.

  • Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.Go to Troubleshoot: Navigate to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.Run Keyboard Troubleshooter: Find and run the Keyboard troubleshooter.

6. Adjust Brightness via Settings

While resolving the F2 key issue, you can still adjust brightness through the settings.

  • Open Settings: Press Win + I.Go to Display Settings: Navigate to System > Display.
  • Adjust Brightness: Use the slider under Brightness and color to adjust the screen brightness.

7. Check for Physical Damage

Ensure that the key itself is not damaged or stuck.

  • Clean the Keyboard: Gently clean the keyboard, especially around the F2 key, to make sure there's no debris causing it to stick or malfunction.Test the Key: Press the F2 key firmly but gently to see if it responds.

8. Perform a System Restore

If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to a previous point when the F2 key was working.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
