HP Pavilion - 14-bk070s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

on my previous HP laptop the f5 key refreshed a webpage, all other function keys works for changing volume, brightness. however my new laptop, f5 no longer refreshes a screen and does nothing.

it seems that f5 is not mapped to refresh like the other keys are to perform actions.

Hello,

Chances are that you have the Action Key mode on;

First: Shutdown the computer -> Start taping Esc key and while doing so, turn on the laptop -> The startup menu will appear with a list of options - > release "Esc" and press the F10 button for BIOS setup utility -> Using your arrow keys navigate to "Advnaced" and look for "Action key mode"  and make sure its Disabled, if not, just select it, press Enter and then choose Disable. After that press F10 to save changes and then restart the PC;

You do not need to use the Fn combo for BIOS and its options;

What Action key mode does is that you have special functions like "Airplane mode", raise lor lower brighntess and such and when it is enabled you can use the F keys for those functions and if you just need the F1 - F12 keys  you need to use the FN and F key combo. If you disable "Action keys mode" then the whole thing will reverse and  you can use the F1 - F12 keys like before.

I do hope this helps you and al lthe best
