Common problems for Battery

My mouse pad glitches out every few seconds. I have to constantly hit FN+F11 to turn it off and on again. It's fine for a few seconds after I do this, but then it glitches out again. It won't scroll properly. In fact, scroll suddenly turns into zoom. It won't do ANYTHING properly. It's ridiculous! I've tried driver reinstalls. Nothing works. My PC is an Omen. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
HP, can you fix your stupid, glitchy, failed mousepad, PLEASE???

Hi @Silmalel007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can understand how frustrating this is, especially when the touchpad works for a few seconds after pressing Fn + F11 and then immediately starts acting up again. If scrolling suddenly becomes zooming, gestures stop responding correctly, and you have to keep resetting the touchpad, that's definitely not the experience you should be having on your OMEN.

Since you've already tried reinstalling the drivers, I'd like you to try a few additional checks.

1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears temporary hardware states that can affect touchpad behavior:

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Disconnect all non-essential external devices.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and start the PC.

2. Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics Touchpad Test

  • Turn the notebook off.
  • Power it on and immediately tap F2 repeatedly.
  • Open Component Tests.
  • Select Mouse/Touchpad and run the available tests.

Please let me know if the test reports any failures or error IDs.

3. Check Windows and Optional Updates
Even if Windows appears up to date, please check for Optional Updates, as touchpad and HID-related updates are sometimes delivered there.

4. BIOS Restore
I'd also recommend performing an HP BIOS Recovery to rule out firmware-related issues:

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Hold Windows + B.
  • While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B until the recovery screen appears.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.

One more thing I'd like to know: when the issue occurs, does it happen only on the touchpad, or does an external USB mouse continue to work normally? That detail can help determine whether we're looking at a touchpad-specific issue or something affecting the input controller itself.

Could you also send me the exact OMEN model or product number (P/N) and let me know whether the touchpad test passes or fails? We'll take it from there and do our best to get this sorted out.

I hope this helps.

@VikramTheGreat, Thanks so much for your reply.

I've done everything you suggested, but the same issue continues to happen. (mouse pointer won't move; can't drag and drop; can't highlight text; scroll turns to zoom; can't undo the zoom with the touchpad, etc.).

My ProdID is 6H332UA#ABA

OMEN by HP Laptop 16-b1747nr

I do have a Logitech USB mouse, but my issue occurs even with the USB dongle removed from my PC. I made sure to test everything with it removed.

The issues ONLY happen with the touchpad. My USB mouse continues to function properly even when the touchpad loses its mind.

The touchpad tests all completed successfully. But my touchpad glitched during the drag and drop test and I had to FN-F11 my way out of it. The test didn't recognize that as a fail.

The touchpad works just fine immediately after I turn it off and back on. Then, it suddenly won't work correctly. I'm starting to wonder if there's a background process that's competing with the touchpad after I turn it back on, but I have no idea what it could be.

I've also tried adjusting touchpad sensitivity and pointer speed, but none of that has worked.

Thanks again for your help! This has been going on since purchase.

I ran the tests again as instructed. The pointer and the drag and drop tests passed again.

Pointer Test Pass ID: 25837-64010-61754

Drag and Drop Test Pass ID: 25837-64011-61754

Not sure what to do next, but the issue persists.
