how to control keyboard backlit?

Hi @mego63,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which model are you using ?
  • Is the backlight not turning on at all, or is it just that brightness control isn’t working?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Basic Controls

  • Function Key Combination: On most HP laptops, the backlight is controlled by pressing the Fn key along with one of the function keys (commonly F5, F4, F9, or F11) that has a small keyboard illumination icon.
  • Arrow Key Option: On some models, the right arrow key toggles the backlight when pressed with Fn.

Windows Settings

  • Windows Mobility Center (Windows 11):
  1. Press Win + X and select Mobility Center.
  2. Look for a keyboard backlight option and adjust brightness if available.

Other Checks

  • Confirm Feature Availability: Not all HP laptops come with a backlit keyboard. If your model doesn’t support it, the keys won’t respond.
  • BIOS Settings: In rare cases, the backlight option may need to be enabled in BIOS. Restart your laptop, press Esc or F10 during startup, and check for keyboard lighting options.
  • Driver Update: Ensure your HP System Event Utility and BIOS are up to date via HP Support Assistant.

I hope this helps.
