Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I understand you are receiving an error during boot - "SMART Hard Disk Error"
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you make any recent hardware or software changes that could have caused the issue?
Have you created a backup of all your personal files?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:
On startup, you may see an error message like the following:
The SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.
To ensure no data loss, please backup the content immediately and run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
The SMART Hard Disk test produces a prediction about the potential for hard drive failure, not an actual failure. A SMART Hard Disk error warning can appear for a variety of reasons such as the computer having been jarred sharply, or the hard disk being subjected to higher than usual temperatures.
After receiving the error message above:
-
Immediately back up all important data and files. While the SMART Hard Disk error might not indicate the imminent loss of the hard disk, it is best to be prepared, just in case the disk does fail.
-
Run a Hard Drive Test to verify the condition of the hard disk.
However, as you've already done a test and it passed, there could be a loose connection, I recommend you reseat the hard drive (if possible) and if you have trouble or not comfortable doing it, please Contact HP to have the drive either repaired or replaced:
