HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0056wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm interested in a possible CPU upgrade in my HP Pavilion Gaming 15. I know laptops are built very different, so is that kind of upgrade possible? If so, what is compatible? Will the motherboard limit anything?

Hi:

The processor your notebook comes with is an integral part of the motherboard.

It's been that way since the Intel 5th generation core processors were introduced to market.

The only way to upgrade the processor would be to replace the motherboard with one listed in chapter 3 of your notebook's service manual that would come with a better processor.

Such an upgrade would be very expensive to do.

Thank you for your response! Very fascinating they made it that way, and it is unfortunate because as much as I love the laptop it is not worth the cost of that project. Thank you for being so informative.

You're very welcome.

I'm thinking these changes were made to PCs to keep making them thinner and lighter.

There are some PC's out there today that have the memory and even the Wi-Fi cards soldered to the motherboard, and nothing is upgradable but maybe the NVMe SSD.
