i just purchased the Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 16t-r100. I have only installed steam and the game "squad." I ran squad for about 20 minutes and felt the bottom portion of the labtop heating up. checked the gaming hub and it read it was 160f with just 17 percent cput utilization and gpu was 132f. Is this normal. i feel with basically nothing on my system it should not get to those levels with a basic tutorial screen.

Hi @sgomez96,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 16 is running unusually hot, especially with minimal usage. While gaming laptops can get warm under load, temperatures of 160°F (71°C) for the CPU and 132°F (56°C) for the GPU during light use are on the higher side.
Here are a few things you can check.
- Ventilation and Cooling: Ensure that the laptop's vents are not obstructed and that the cooling system is functioning properly. Using the laptop on a hard, flat surface can help with airflow.
- Update Drivers: Make sure your graphics and chipset drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, overheating issues can be resolved with driver updates.
- Power Settings: Check your power settings in Windows and make sure the laptop is not set to run at maximum performance all the time. You can adjust this in the Control Panel under Power Options.
- Thermal Paste: If the laptop is new, thermal paste application should be fine, but if the issue persists, it might be worth checking if the thermal paste is properly applied or if there's any dust buildup.
- Background Processes: Even though you mentioned minimal usage, check for background processes that might be using CPU/GPU resources.
- BIOS and Firmware: Ensure that your BIOS and firmware are up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates can improve thermal management.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
