From start when I bought the laptop. I noticed my battery didnt last 4-5 hours. It went from 80% to 10% within 1.5h. And all I did on the laptop is simple browsing + using Visual Studio Code for simple code learning. Can this be a corrupted battery? Maybe I need to swap it

@Taljat, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It’s understandable to be concerned — your battery should definitely last longer than 1.5 hours for light tasks like browsing and coding. That kind of drop usually points to one of three things: a battery calibration issue, background power drain, or a failing cell. Here’s how to narrow it down before assuming it’s defective:
Check Battery Health in HP Support Assistant
Open HP Support Assistant → My Dashboard → Battery → Battery Check.
This will show the battery condition (Good, Fair, or Replace).
If it reports “Replace” or “Weak,” then yes — the battery likely needs replacement.
Run HP UEFI Battery Diagnostic
Turn off your laptop and press Esc → F2 → Component Tests → Power → Battery Test.
This test gives a more accurate reading of the battery’s capacity and wear level.
Calibrate the Battery
Fully charge the battery to 100%.
Use the laptop on battery until it shuts down automatically (avoid Sleep or Hibernate).
Charge it back to 100% without interruption.
Then check if the percentage readings become more accurate — sometimes a miscalibrated sensor makes it seem like the battery drains faster than it actually does.
Check Background and Power Settings
Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Battery Usage by App and look for apps consuming unusually high power.
Make sure battery saver and balanced power mode are on.
