HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC 15-eh3000 (794P4AV)
Whenever I plug the laptop in to charge it, there is a high-pitched hissing or whistling noise. When I disconnect the plug from the laptop, the noise stops. It only happens while it is charging. I have updated the drivers and bios and done the HP diagnostic & hardware checks.

Hi @srfsa,
Thank you for your reply
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the high-pitched hissing sound when your HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC 15-eh3000 is charging is often caused by electrical components like capacitors or inductors in the power circuitry. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as coil whine. Here's how to address it:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
1. Verify the Source of the Noise
- Check the Adapter: Try using a different compatible HP charger to determine if the sound is coming from the charger or the laptop itself.
- Isolate the Environment: Plug the laptop into a different outlet, preferably in another room, to rule out interference from the power source.
2. Adjust Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Change Plan Settings for the active plan.
- Click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Look for Processor Power Management and reduce the maximum processor state to 95% when plugged in. This can lower power draw and reduce coil whine.
3. Ensure Firmware and Drivers Are Up-to-Date
- Confirm that the BIOS and chipset drivers are updated (you mentioned this is already done).
4. Inspect the Laptop's Hardware
- Check for any loose components or unusual wear inside the charging port area if comfortable opening the laptop (or have a professional do it).
5. Test with Battery Removed
- If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it and use the laptop only on AC power. This can help identify if the sound is related to battery charging specifically.
6. Check for Electrical Interference
- Use a surge protector or UPS to reduce the chance of electrical interference contributing to the noise.
