@cheryl5000, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding reinstalling the keyboard after an update!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble with your keyboard — that sounds frustrating! Let's try to get it sorted out step-by-step.

Since the keyboard isn’t showing in Device Manager and resetting didn’t help, it could be a driver or hardware detection issue. Here are a few things you can try:

Check for Windows and HP updates

  • Open Settings > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.
  • Also, try updating drivers through the HP Support Assistant (you can download it from HP’s website if you don’t have it installed).

Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and run the Keyboard Troubleshooter.

Try reinstalling the keyboard driver

Since it’s not showing in Device Manager:

  • Go to Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices — see if the keyboard appears there.
  • If you see it, right-click and select Uninstall > Restart your laptop.
  • If it’s still missing, try installing the driver manually from HP’s support page.

Reset BIOS Settings

  • Turn off your laptop, press F10 when powering on to enter BIOS.
  • Select Restore Defaults and save the changes.

External Keyboard Test

Just to rule out a hardware issue, try connecting an external keyboard. If that works, the issue might be with the laptop's keyboard connection.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
