I want to turn on text overwrite (if possible) on my HP Spectre laptop

Hi @Gilbailey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding overwriting text on an HP Spectre laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To turn on text overwrite in any text application (such as word processors) on an HP Spectre laptop, you'll need to use the "Insert" key. This functionality is not specific to HP Spectre laptops but is a feature of the software you are using. Here’s how you can do it:

Open the Text Editor or Application:

  • Go to the text application where you want to enable text overwrite.

Locate the 'Insert' Key:

  • Find the "Insert" key on your keyboard. It's usually located on the right side of the keyboard near the "Delete" key.

Toggle Text Overwrite Mode:

  • Press the "Insert" key once. This will toggle the mode between "Insert" and "Overwrite."
  • When in "Overwrite" mode, new text you type will replace existing text to the right of the cursor.

Note: If your application does not support overwrite mode or if your keyboard does not have an "Insert" key, you may need to consult the application's documentation for similar functionality. If in doubt, you may also use shortcut keys or menu options in specific applications to achieve this functionality.

I hope this helps.
