hp envy x360 13

i need help on how to use my hp pen. I recently bought the ENVY x360 13 laptop and the pen that came with it was the L85659-001. I tried searching for a manual in the box or online but i could not find any. unlike the previous versions of pens where there is a cap which u can press and hold to activate the bluetooth, this pen

does NOT have a butten you can hold down for 3 seconds to pair with the bluetooth on my laptop.

It looks like the one in the pictures. It has a slide up bit to uncover the usbc charge port and it has two buttons near the tip. When I press the top it does nothing. There is no click, nothing.

It is NOT listed in the windows devices view and yet it still works! I have never paired it. It just worked out of the box.

My problem is that none of the SW recognises it, other that as a mouse! No tilt, no pressure sensitive.

Is there any configuration that I am supposed to do?

What is the exact name / model / product number of your computer?

Finding your Product Name, Product Number, or Serial Number

Please do NOT post the serial number.

I will check to see if I can cross reference anything useful...

I stomped all over trying to find a reasonable answer to this...

Noted as compatible with your computer:

Accessories

1MR94AA

HP Pen

Accessories

3J122AA

HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen

Accessories

3J123AA

HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen

I cannot track down that part number (L85659-001) - I can see it, I cannot cross reference the part number to anything useful.  Nada (meaning "No" or "Nothing")

I did find a pen part number that (presumably) comes in the box with the computer - it is not the L85659-xxx number)

920241-001 is the HP Pen.

The two MPP pens (noted at the beginning of this message) do not require drivers.  Whether the pens do anything besides "be a pen" is something I cannot answer.

So, where does that leave you?

Nowhere useful.

For the moment, at least, you are left without a driver (although based on the complete mystery surrounding the part, I would guess a driver is NOT required) and (you are left) without specific instructions for using that pen with the hard-to-track part number.

Based on the information I can find (threads mentioning this part number), AND were it me, I would purchase one of the MPP pens and try that.  NOTE the mention "were it me" - this is what I would do given the same situation.

What to do?

  1. Throw up hands and investigate replacing mystery pen with a pen you can use.
  2. Contact HP Support - use the serial number of your computer to submit the case.  See if you can get any reasonable information about that pen.
