Windows has the update history available to view in the Settings module. But how can I view the HP update history?
I recently had an update but want to know just what the update was for.
I"m having problems with the fingerprint reader that does not work after reawakening from Sleep. I am aware of the setting in the Device Manager to prevent the reader shutting off to conserve power. This is a problem with other users also. By the way the recent Windows 10 update reset the device to turn off.
I was wondering if that update was a fix, which apparently was not. But I'm still wanting to know what is happening.

I am guessing your computer is one of:
This Driver is newer than the one in your computer's Software and Driver page:
sp79053_Validity_Sensor_V4.5.327.0A_W10-64bit.exe
- Driver Consumer Notebooks as listed: cva / sp79053.html
Including: HP Envy
- Device: USB\VID_138A&PID_0050="Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0050)"
Enhancements: Provides support for systems updated to Windows 10 v1607
Latest HP SimplePass program (at this writing):
sp86959 HP SimplePass V8.01.92 W10 32-64bit.exe

"what is going on" - some ideas
HP Support Assistant
IF you use the HP Support Assistant to update your HP software and drivers, that program provides "history" in the Action log. This information may be lost if the program is reinstalled (depends on how the program is removed).

Manual Updates
If you are installing manually (download, save, install)
Check in C:\SWSetup folder for installation folders / logs as are available. Folders are named for the "sp" file used to complete the update / installation. Reminder: SWSetup is not a "tool", this is merely a folder in which update information is saved (depending on the installation method).
Check in Windows Updates > Driver Updates
If Windows Updates provides the update, check in
Settings > Windows Updates > View Update History > Driver Updates
Reliability Report to see what is going on
- Reliability Report
Although this cool reporting tool has been around for quite a while, it might be overlooked because it is hiding in an unlikely spot in the Operating System.
Windows 7: Control Panel > set icon view > Action Center >
Windows 10:
Control Panel > set icon view > Security and Maintenance >
Under Maintenance > Open the Drop Down Menu >> Click on View Reliability Report
OR
Windows key > search for reliability report > click on the application name to start
wmic to see the list of product installations
Open a command prompt window with Admin privileges:
Windows key + X + A
wmic product get name,version,InstallDate,InstallLocation
Possible “gets”:
Node,AssignmentType,Caption,Description,HelpLink,HelpTelephone,IdentifyingNumber,InstallDate,InstallDate2,InstallLocation,InstallSource,InstallState,Language,LocalPackage,Name,PackageCache,PackageCode,PackageName,ProductID,RegCompany,RegOwner,SKUNumber,Transforms,URLInfoAbout,URLUpdateInfo,Vendor,Version,WordCount
wmic /output:C:\Users\AccountName\Documents\InstallList.txt product get name,version,InstallDate,InstallLocation
One method to output simple combined line information to csv:
