Hello,

Suddenly my Laptop stopped working on wifi.

I checked the Nic card and looks like is is faulty, i trid a alternate card from the same model at office and it worked.

I need a replacement, but i could see that now new cards support 802.11 AC which is better, so was just wondering if I can purchase it and install it for my laptop

intel® dual band wireless-ac 8265

Can i use it my laptop is already out of warranty and i dont care of voiding it anyways.

I need it urgently, if the above will not work please suggest a alternate that will, I need 802.11 AC as we use maily 5GHz at offcie and house so it will best taht way. 2.4 GHz dosent give full speed as I have 150Mbps downling and uplink internet.

802.11 bgn will only suppport 72mbps.

Check my first post with the link to the Service Manual and pp. 42-43. Shows exactly how to open it but also confirms one antenna so you may want to just not open it. Your call.

This is the kind of device I am talking about.

http://www.ebay.in/itm/New-Free-Shipping-Kootek-AC-600Mbps-USB-Wifi-Adapter-Wireless-802-11ac-Wifi-D...

Small usb dongle not really external. It almost disappears into the usb port. Reception is about as good as an internal wireless card.

Above is pretty expensive like $50 US....this is much cheaper if you can get it shipped to India:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/600Mbps-Dual-Band-2-4G-5G-Hz-Wireless-Lan-USB-PC-WiFi-Adapter-802-11AC-US-/1...

We pay like $10 or less for them in the US.

We understand the limits of 802.11n and yes you want an 802.11ac card. The ONLY issue is whether you have 2 antennae. You have been in there to install a wireless card so you must have seen how many. The Manual is saying you only have one antenna.

See pp. 42-43 here:

Your Service Manual

There is no BIOS whitelist so you do not need to worry about the system rejecting the card. However, by all appearances you are not going to be able to install an 802.11ac card unless you add an antenna which is not easy at all. Requires complete disassembly of the laptop.

Where do you live (country)?

Your best bet may be a usb 802.11ac dongle. They actually work quite well and are cheap. In any event since you have an AMD processor you cannot use an Intel adapter; they do not play nice together.

Thanks for the details, howeber I guess I have 2 plugs on the Wifi card ref page 43.

And it is mini version or the half size I am not sure if that wil help.

HOW MANY ANTENNA? That is the issue, not how many plugs on the card. I know there are 2. There are 2 on all of them. If you do not have 2 antenna leads you cannot have 802.11ac and you cannot use a 5ghz wifi card. You can put it in and it will "work" but it will be crippled and will run no better than what you have.

Ok then I will have to get the lid open i guess, if there a guide I can refer that will show me the location of the antenna so that i can confirm.

**So you are suggesting that I use a external device instead. Is there a recommended device that i can use for day to day activities.
