HP Laptop PC 17-by4000 (18B35AV)

Does my hp 17 by4013dx have the option to add a traditional 2.5 inch ssd in addition to the m.2 Nvme drive it comes with?  There seems to be a spot for the 2.5 inch ssd but no ribbon cable to connect it.

Hi:

It may if there is a SATA connector to install the hard drive cable to on the motherboard to add a 2.5" drive.

The problem is HP only has the service manual for the older model series on your notebook's support page.

HP Laptop PC 17-by4000 (18B36AV) - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

If your PC has the connector on the motherboard, you will have to find and buy the additional parts needed to add a 2.5" drive.

Chapter 3, page 23 has what appear to be the two parts you need to do that.

Hard drive cover    HP part # L22534-001

Hard drive cable     HP part # L22526-001

You're looking at over $100 for the two parts if you order them from HP.

HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts

Chapter 6 has the hard drive installation procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the NVMe SSD with one having a greater storage capacity.

You could probably do it for a lot less, save battery power and not have the extra heat generated by the extra drive.
