Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

My laptop battery recently started shutting down at 80 to 86 percent after fully charging it.

During charging, the LED in the laptop usually goes from orange (charging) to white (fully charged ) and then back to orange again. It does this continuously until the laptop charges fully before shutting down without warning at 80 to 86 percent

It's a hp 15-bs0510d Laptop, intel core I3-7100U  with 4gb ram and 1tb hard drive storage.

Been using it for about 1 year and 8months

@Abdulrazaq1 Peace be unto you,

And Welcome to HP Community!

I have a few steps that should help resolve the issue:

  • Check with an alternate power cord/adapter or another wall outlet, remove any surge protectors and connect directly to the wall outlet and check if that works.
  • Does the issue persists with the battery alone or even when the device is connected to the wall outlet? please verify.
  • Have you had any thunderstorms lately, before this issue occurred?
    • If yes, this could be a hardware malfunction that requires a repair.
    • If no, try the below steps:
    • (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

I have tried plugging to another wall socket and adapter but still no change.

The issue occurs with the battery. I removed the battery and plugged the laptop at a time and there was no orange and white LED fluctuation.

Also  there was no thunder storm. Although  I remember the issue first showed when I plugged the laptop on a low current.It began fluctuating so I then unplugged it after about 5 minutes. I tried plugging it back on a normal current later on but the LED fluctuation was still there when charging.

I checked my battery report and found that design capacity was-31208mWh while full charge is 11432mWh.

I also receive a message on startup that the storage capacity of the laptop is very low and may need to be replaced.

Is it possible that the low current I plugged in on for about five minutes caused damage to the battery  causing the LED to fluctuate when charging?

@Abdulrazaq1

This seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
