My HP Gubon dvdrw drive suddenly quit being able to burn any disks after burning many disks.  My last burn was the day before it stopped working.  The first thing I noticed was an error message of "Windows was not able to load a related device driver."  This message was eliminated when I deleted the "UpperFilters" in the registry and the system saw my drive again but this didn't fix the burn issue.  Now when I try burning a disk, I get a message saying I need the current firmware for the drive.  The sp74822 firmware upgrade didn't fix the problem.  Where can I find and install the correct firmware version for this drive?  I'd like to know why this drive suddenly quit working properly?

I have done everything that the referenced web page says.  I uninstalled, reinstalled, modified the registry, and more and the only changes that have been positive are the messages about windows not loading a related driver which disappeared after changing the registry and the DVDRW drive reads only dvds created on this burner.  When trying to burn a dvd, the message about needing the latest firmware must be installed appears.  Also, an error message when trying to use appears saying that Windows can't access the disk when trying to do a disk check.  The last windows update before my recovery efforts was 8/8/2017.  The DVD drive worked perfectly until that update.  I noticed on Microsoft's website that on the Device Manager under the Firmware heading an entry possibly should have been listed for the DVDRW drive for firmware updates.  Did HP not load all the software for the drive thereby not creating the firmware entry needed for the update?  The drive fails the UEFI tests too.  My Windows version is 10.0.15063, the BIOS is F.45 on a Notebook Pavilion.  Both Cyberlink Power Director and File Explorer cannot create a dvd.  What happend to the utility MyDrive?  This problem is getting critical.  I don't see the need to replace what was working.

Thanks for any help.

It sems that there is serious problem that needs addressing since this problem ia affecting many users.  I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible for the fix/problem but until the source of the problem is discoverd and corrected we all have useless dvd drives.  I talked to LG, the manufacturer of the drive, and was told that since the drive is PnP, no firmware updates are available and the drive would need to be replaced by them provided the serial number can be found.  Was it a Windows Update or a defect in the drive that has caused so many to have the same issue?

Something to think about!
