Hey Malbond,

I would suggest to go to download drivers and software.

Put in your model and download the software for the HP MediaSmart DVD.

It would put in the appropriate drivers for your Computer.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

You could also try a Hardware diagnostic test once you put in the model it will give utility's in the download  options.

If you would like assistance getting to that I would need the model of computer and the Operating System.

Thanks

Hi.

OK, thanks for the download link. I presume that it's OK for UK as well as US ?

Assistance with a h/w diagnostic would be great. The PC is a Pavilion dv8, running Win 7 Professional.

Kind rgds.

Hi, again.

The download site wants more detail about the model. It is a Pavilion dv8-1250ea, and the site tells me that it can't locate the drivers and software for this machine. Any ideas gratefully received.

Kind rgds.

      The Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel utility enables users of Windows XP, Vista, and 7 to mount ISO disk image files as virtual CD-ROM drives. This can be highly useful for reading disk images to install software or recover backup files. Notes: This tool is not supported by Microsoft; use at your own risk. Windows 8 users do NOT need this tool. Windows 8 natively supports ISO files. In Windows 8, you can simply open an ISO file and Windows automatically assigns it a drive letter and reads it as a virtual drive.

System Requirements
===================
- Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional

Installation instructions
=========================
1. Copy VCdRom.sys to your %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder.
2. Execute VCdControlTool.exe
3. Click "Driver control"
4. If the "Install Driver" button is available, click it. Navigate to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder, select VCdRom.sys, and click Open.
5. Click "Start"
6. Click OK
7. Click "Add Drive" to add a drive to the drive list. Ensure that the drive added is not a local drive. If it is, continue to click "Add Drive" until an unused drive letter is available.
8. Select an unused drive letter from the drive list and click "Mount".
9. Navigate to the image file, select it, and click "OK". UNC naming conventions should not be used, however mapped network drives should be OK.

You may now use the drive letter as if it were a local CD-ROM device. When you are finished you may unmount, stop, and remove the driver from memory using the driver control.

Hey david the Let me fix it still Not working  I'm still Convinced Microsoft windows 10 Upgreade and fix updated messed it up cause as you knowced since HP used have all the software hard ware updated on theere  web site for our lantop Models .

Serial #: CNF103572P

XH051UA

and what I knocticed as well Microsoft Blocked us from going back useing the driver's we had before .

we made a video of and sent it off to Microsoft showing on there "Big Tim" ScrewuP this new  Redstone for Insider's don't get it cause it did the same thing after we got everything working Microsft stated to us in a letter for the Upgrade it will Not touch our Software diver's etc they will remail the same when the computer Booted right back up into Desktop a lot of my files where gone like Cyberlink 15 DVD a Media suite and all it's software to run it was removed .

I called Cyberlink and reported all this to them there giving me a refund Umtill Ither HP Or Microsoft come's up with a Solution on why this has happened .

Hp should Create a separt part on the hard to protect ALl DVD CD ROM firmware software anthing on to the system onlu let microsoft use there os part and thats it this they can't over write the file with an Older version or outdated one this happened before with previous updates  but not as Bad as this with out the cd -rom I can't even sue Instilation cd's everything has to a usb plug in or thub drive Best buy get's enough headaces over screw ups of people bringing there computer's in to try and fix  in the worst case end up installing a New dvd cd rom BD drive

each time I try and use the Bios updates as well I get Blocked from sueing after i put in the compatible  as well and save it it's blocked as well almost all the Sp.exe install files  there are no Malwares virus trogin's nothing on my computer it was tested in and out and nothing came up my system was clean .

the Upper and lower filter's also don't show up ? so I need to find the Origonal dvd diver's that came with my Computer from HOM I'm sure they have it with out Installing the Instillation cd's I rodred but that would put my computer back to factory Default setting's Not like the Old Compac Computers they use had a cd just labled for driver's only the oparating cds should to HP should fight back against Microsoft in they they let People down  it's ok on some thing's but when they it won't touch driver's you're sfotware programs etc then wamo there gone after the upgrade check close at you're systems make sure they haven't altered any of the Firm ware that was On it to run the harware.
