HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-bp1xx bulge, battery swollen,
I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A SLOW AND CONSTANT BULGE IN THE KEYBOARD FOR QUITE SOME TIME, WELL OVER A YEAR,
IT IS CONNECTED TO AN ADDITIONAL MONITOR AND KEYBOARD SO I DON'T MONITOR IT EVERY DAY ALTHOUGH IS HAS RISEN TO ABOUT 8 MM AND WONT CLOSE PROPERLY.
I HAVE NOW DONE SOME INVESTIGATION TO FIND IT IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED HP ISSUE AND WONDERING IF THERE IS AN ASSOCIATED PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS OR IS IT A MATTER OF BAD LUCK, YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN MEASURING IT AND NOW YOU'RE OUT OF WARRANTY, ITS NOT HP'S FAULT, ITS YOURS...

There is no way to know ahead of time - at least there is no way for a consumer to know - how or when a battery will fail in this manner.
Batteries always fail - sometimes they just slowly die and sometimes they fail in other, more spectacular ways.
Bloated battery needs to be replaced.
Immediate concerns:
- Stop trying to close the case - the next thing to break could be something much worse than what is happening now.
- Make sure your backups are current - and keep them current - the battery will fail (and likely sooner rather than later).
Two choices - actually three:
- Purchase and change out the battery yourself for the expense of having to purchase said battery.
- If the computer is in Warranty, contact HP World-Wide Support, submit a case, prepare to send the computer to HP for repair.
Third, unofficial option
- Wait for an agent to find your message, evaluate the content, and perhaps respond.
Some people do opt for the third option - "bloated" battery is a sensitive subject for some.
The fastest option is to purchase and replace the battery.
We can provide the information to help you replace the battery - let us know.
There is also video available.
The basic information you need is located in the Service Guide for your computer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Fat" Battery / Bloated Battery / Swollen Battery – Sealed / Internal Battery
- If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.
- There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.
