Hi @Juliagallo11,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop (HQ-tre 71025) is not powering on or charging, and you've already tried holding the power button for an extended period, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue:
**1. Check Power Source and Connections
- Ensure that the power adapter is properly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet.
- Check if the power adapter’s LED indicator (if it has one) is on, which shows that it is receiving power.
- Plug the power adapter into a different wall outlet to rule out issues with the current outlet.
- Check the power cable for any visible damage or fraying. If you find any issues, consider using a different power adapter that matches the specifications of your laptop.
**2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Remove all external devices connected to your laptop, including USB drives, printers, and external keyboards or mice.
- Unplug the power adapter from the laptop and the wall outlet.
- If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
- Press and hold the power button for at least 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reinsert the battery (if applicable) and plug the power adapter back into the laptop and wall outlet.
- Press the power button to see if the laptop powers on.
**3. Check Battery and Charging Indicators
Inspect Battery:
- If the battery is removable, ensure it is properly seated in the battery bay.
Test Battery with Different Adapter:
- If you have access to another compatible power adapter, try using it to rule out issues with the original adapter.
**4. Perform a BIOS Reset
- Power on the laptop and immediately press the Esc key (or F2 or F10 depending on your laptop model) repeatedly to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.
- Verify that the BIOS is detecting the battery and power adapter correctly.
- If you made any changes, save them and exit BIOS setup.
**5. Check for Faulty Hardware
- Look for any signs of physical damage, such as cracks or loose components, that might indicate internal issues.
**6. Update and Reset BIOS (if possible):
- If your laptop powers on but doesn’t boot properly, you might need to update or reset the BIOS. Visit HP Support to find BIOS updates for your specific model.
- Follow the instructions provided by HP to perform the BIOS update or reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
