The specs of your machine is

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05609709

It has  1 TB 5400 rpm SATA now. It does not m.2 slot for storage. You can upgrade to 2.5" SATA SSD using the following compatible drives

           https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd1/ct11579071  (1TB)

or       https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct2000mx500ssd1/ct11579038   (2TB)

For RAM,  it has 8 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB) now you can upgrade to 16GB (max) using

https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfs824a/ct11579046              (RAM will run at 2133MHz)

Stating that my laptop does not have an m.2 slot based solely on the manual does not indicate that you even looked at my pictures that I uploaded.  If you did look at them you would clearly see that my mother board is equipped with at least one unused m.2 slot.

Yes that slot...why couldn't I use it?

The series does not support WWAN options therefore that slot is simply empty.
