so i got this laptop from a friend and have been upgrading it for a cheap linux machine. it came with 2 512mb ddr (DDR1) ram sticks pc2700 and 333mhz. the hp archives stated i could do a max of 2gb so ibought 2x kingston 1gb ddr1 pc2700 333mhz ram but it doesnt fit. the pins are diffrent and the new ram is a little larger. im confused and need some assistance because everything shoulve checked out.

Hi,

Are you sure that in your system there were not DDR2 modules. The DV4000 comes in two editions, one takes DDR RAM and one takes DDR2 RAM. Since the DDR RAM you bought does not fit, I am guessing that the RAM in your system is DDR2 which has different slotting and will not fit in DDR slot.
