Pavilion 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys,

Have had my Pavilion Power 15-cb0xx for a year now, been loving it really. My issue is the fan noise and frequency - how can I change this?

Whenever I'm in a game (only really HoI4, Civ5), or using other intensive programs (autoCAD), the fan whirls up real loud. Now I know that the fan needs to be there to get rid of the heat, but it seems to happen a bit much. The games I'm playing aren't exactly AAA either.

I've done a bit of googling, and it seems like turbo boost may be the culprit? Additionally I've read that undervolting might help? Is undervolting safe, and if so does anyone have a link to a decent guide/how to?

I don't mind having the laptop slow a little (I don't think it would make a big difference to those games), but I would like to stop the massive fan use/volume.

Any help is appreciated,

Cheers

HP does not recommend overclocking or undervolting on the HP Pavilion Models

If the fan is making noise, try updating the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Hi KrazyToad,

Apologies for replying a little late - been super busy!

I have ensured that everything is up-to-date on the laptop. BIOS, graphics driver, everything that the HP Support Assistant mentions too. I have also followed the second link. Unfortunately, none seem to have done anything.

The fan only really starts about 3-4 minutes after beginning playing a game. But as mentioned previously, these aren't exactly demanding games (Civ 5 was released in 2010!).

What I'd like to do is to prevent whatever feature is causing the fan to run so much, whether that be TurboBoost or whichever. Even if that means a loss of some performance.

Thanks in advance
