hp probook 6465b
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

   Hello community...

I m trying to find the specificatios of this probook 6465b with [edit ]and product nymber :LH818AV.It has an AMD A4-3310mx on 1633 hp motherboard.

I m thinking of upgrading the ram but i m confused about supporting dual channel memory.

I found a datasheet that says "ddr3 1333mhz,two slots supporting dual channel memory" but  in footnotes with small letters says that "Dual channel is only supported when the system when the system is configured with DDR2 SYMMETRIC MEMORY"

So...can i install two ddr3 modules for dual channel memory use or not?

I d appreciated any help !!

Thanks a lot!!

Hi:

The information I am reading from the official HP quickspecs at the link below is the PC supports dual channel as long as you install matching capacity memory (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB).

See the link below, page 9.

http://cdn.cnetcontent.com/a1/96/a1968398-eae7-4d3f-b88c-ed61945412d3.pdf

Standard       DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz) Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB SODIMMs

Maximum      Upgradeable to 16 GB with 8 GB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2

Dual-channel    Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.

NOTE: Due to the non-industry standard nature of some third-party memory modules, we recommend HP branded memory to ensure compatibility. If you mix memory speeds, the system will perform at the lower memory speed. Full availability of 4 GB or more of memory requires a Windows 64-bit operating system or Linux. With Windows 32-bit operating systems, the amount of usable memory is dependent upon your configuration, so that above 3 GB all memory may not be available due to system resource requirements.

Here is the link to the Crucial memory report for your model which lists compatible memory...

Paul...i have to say you are very quick!!

I have done a lot of "googling" trying to find such  a datasheet but never gave this result of your link.

Thank you very much for your time and your interest to help me and enlighting about my problem!

i was got confused by this datasheet http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2011/businessmobility/HPProBook6465bDatasheet.pdf,where at page 2 and page 4 (footnote 24) says what i was writting at my first post.

I ll give try and i ll be back with the results!!

Thanks  a lot again!

You're very welcome.

Yes, I can see where note 24 would cause confusion.

It is certainly a mistake because you cannot run DDR2 memory in a notebook that is designed to run DDR3 memory.

It runs at a different voltage and the slot is cut in a different place than on a DDR3 chip to prevent the accidental insertion of a wrong voltage memory module.

All I can think of is that HP carried that note over from an older model and didn't update it to state DDR3.

You are tottally right and you helped  me  a lot to understand the all situation!!

For once again thank you very much!

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Also the other giveaway that footnote 24 is outdated, is who would be using an example of 2 x 256 MB of memory in any PC made in the last 10 -12 years?  😊
