Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i asked some time ago about upgrading the hp probook 6400 and 6500 series laptops to win11 and was told my 6470b and 6560b could not be hardware upgraded.

so i can install win11 on them i have the iso install sd drive and i have installed on both to see if it can be done. however my worry is this is a bootleg type OS and if i put that back on these pcs i will not get the security updates that i get from win10 and be venerable to hackers or malware. unless running win10 i'm still venerable to these same issues?

if i can install win11 and have the same security i can then proceed again and just install that OS and get use to it. and get the same security updates on win11 running on these older pcs or just start looking for laptops that can run win11 and be updateable for the security updates?

i'm leaning on no i can't put win11 on these pcs and get the security updates.  thanks

Hi:

I have been running W11 for the last two years on all of my unsupported HP and Dell PC's since it came out in October of 2021.

A couple of them are much older than yours, such as my HP 6910p notebook which has a Pentium T7500 processor and my dc7800 CMT desktop PC which has an Intel Pentium E8500.

My PC's have gotten every security update, cumulative update, etc., that Microsoft has released thus far.

I check them against a fully supported HP notebook I have.

The only thing you have to be aware of is that around October of each year (or whenever Microsoft releases the next build of W11), you will have to make a new ISO file with the Rufus v3.18 utility and do an in-place upgrade to the next version of W11 (for example 22H2 to 22H3).

I was able to recently do that on my PC's out of 10, all but two let me do the in-place upgrade.

On the two that failed, I was able to clean install the new version of W11 and reinstall my programs and files.

Since I don't have a lot of additional programs and files to reinstall, that is not a problem for me.

If you are not willing to do that, then I don't recommend you upgrade to W11.

paul.  i would rather just keep win10 but soon win10 is said to be going away. or at least all the functional updates and possibly the security updates. i want to at least keep the security updates.  i could do the iso updates but then always checking to see when the new one comes out takes time.  so that is why now i'm looking into getting another pc that will just be ready for win11 when it is finally the only OS that gets the security updates.

this pc  HP 17.3 Model: 17-BY2053CL -- Intel i5-10th Gen Processor   is not on the xda sites list of updateable pcs so i asked here to see if anyone happens to know for sure, or maybe an hp support person that patrols the forums might see this model and tell me if it is on the list to be ready for win11 and all the updates windows provides.  or another person may have this pc already and be able to confirm that is is on the win11 updateable list. thanks

The model you posted should be fully capable of running W11 (minimum of an Intel 8th gen core processor required), but the one thing I noticed is that HP has not provided any W11 drivers for the 17-BY2053CL.

And since they haven't provided any by now, they won't be.

That could be a problem if components like the sound or video don't work right and there are no W11 drivers available.

Most of the time there are no problems, but I would suggest you go for a model that has W11 drivers.

The newer models don't have W10 drivers.
