I would like to upgrade the ram to maximum and the hdd to ssd to prolong the life of this notebook.
Currently configured with 8gB of DDR3L in a single dimm slot of two available.
Running a fresh install of Windows 8,
Norton removed and replaced with Bit Defender 10.
Any other programs that might be hogging resources that I could do without?

I bought my Laptop one week ago, a bp-091no. Reason is I got it for €230, was €500. or I would had gone for another brand.
After first boot up I was amazed over the background services! Even HP had like 7-8 running! I unistalled what I could and found this script: https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater . I runned it and my windows 10 is running as smooth as Linux, only doing what I want it to do.READ TWICE BEFORE INSTALLING THIS! 8D

Hi,
The max RAM for your model is 16GB of DDR3L 1600Mhz RAM (2x8GB) even if service manual mentions 12GB. You can buy from your preferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung...
As @asmita6658 mentioned above you can find the steps to install on page 47 of the service manual.

Probably a much more noticeable upgrade is to replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD such as the 2.5" Samsung 860 Evo or similar. On page 67 of the service manual, you can see how to replace the drive. It will give a great boost to the everyday performance of the PC.
Personally, I would not use the "Debloater" linked by @Petro_
You can always uninstall the apps you do not need such as the games etc...
If you want a PC without any apps, you should probably choose a different OS.
Hope it helps,
David
