Hi @abhi-119

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing that—it’s understandably disappointing to see a battery replacement warning on a relatively new laptop.

Let’s walk through a focused set of steps to confirm the battery’s condition and rule out any calibration or firmware-related issues before considering replacement.

Step-by-step guide to troubleshoot battery replacement warning

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears embedded controller glitches that may misreport battery status.

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the charger and all peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger and power on.

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for Battery Health

This provides a detailed battery condition report.

  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Review the results:
    • Primary Battery: Passed = battery is healthy.
    • Primary Battery: Replace = battery has degraded below usable thresholds.

You can also run the test from Windows:

3. Update BIOS and Power Drivers

Outdated firmware can misreport battery health.

  • Visit the HP Pavilion 14-dv2000 Drivers page.
  • Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS Update
    • System Event Utility
    • Power Management Driver
  • Restart your system after installation.

4. Calibrate the Battery (if test passed but warning persists)

If diagnostics say the battery is fine but the warning remains:

  • Charge the battery to 100%.
  • Let the laptop idle or use it until it shuts down from low battery.
  • Leave it off for 2 hours.
  • Plug in and charge uninterrupted to 100%.
  • This helps recalibrate the battery level reporting.

Let me know what the battery test result shows—I’ll help you interpret it and guide you further if needed.
