Hi:
Unfortunately, HP has no information on what PCIe generation the notebook supports.
The only service manual available is for the older model series.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
It appears that the drive used in the PC is has this description and part number.
L85364-005 | Solid-state drive 512GB M2 2280 PCIe NVM |
When I researched further into that part number, it doesn't give much of a description.
512 GB, M2 2280 PCIe NVMe value | L85364-005 |
Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up the PCIe connectivity specs on the Intel or AMD websites as applicable.
According to the Intel specs for your notebook's processor, it indicates the PCIe connectivity for the chipset is Gen 3.
Intel Core i71255U Processor 12M Cache up to 4.70 GHz Product Specifications
I find that hard to believe, since many other HP notebooks with 11th gen core processors come with PCIe 4 x 4 NVMe SSD's such as the Victus models and the intel specs for the best processor offered in the model series also indicates the chipset is Gen 3. See second link.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
Intel® Core™ i7-11800H Processor
So, I don't really know what the exact answer is, but I would be surprised if the notebook didn't run a Gen 4 SSD at the full speed.

Thank you Paul, and the legwork,
I too looked into the posted specs and the service manual for this info, but it's MIA in both documents. I've extremely disapointed that HP isn't providing info like this for products anymore. My pst HP laptops did, and it seems like HP tech support doesn't give a ***bleep*** about it. As I'm sure you're aware, there's a large difference in speed betwixt PCIe NVMe GEN 3 & 4, and also there's a big price difference in the cost of the GEN 3 vs 4 drives . Now i'm taking a chance to pay a premium for Samsung 980 pro GEN 4 drive that will be throttled down on a GEN 3 buss, when instead i could buy a cheaper 970plus that is more reliable, and will be faster on a GEN 3 buss than the 980pro.
I'm thinking exactly like you in the thought that it prob is a GEN 4 as the older CPU is Gen 11, and this is a Gen 12.
Frustrating that details like this are not availible in the products specs page, nor the service manual...
Thanks for your help!
