Hi @Ryzen007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the fan.

To check if the fan in your HP 15s Intel Core i3 laptop is working properly, you can perform the following steps:

1. Listen for Fan Noise

  • Place your ear near the laptop's ventilation area and listen for the fan's noise. If you hear the fan spinning, it is at least turning on.
  • Check for any unusual noises, such as grinding, clicking, or rattling, which may indicate a problem with the fan.

2. Feel for Airflow

  • Place your hand near the laptop's exhaust vent to feel for airflow. When the laptop is under load (running tasks or playing a video), you should feel warm air being expelled.
  • If you feel no air or very weak airflow, it could indicate that the fan isn't working properly or is clogged with dust.

3. Monitor Fan Speed Using Software

You can use third-party software tools to monitor the fan speed and temperature:

  • HWMonitor or Open Hardware Monitor: These programs display real-time data about your laptop's hardware, including fan speeds and temperatures.
  • HP Command Center: If pre-installed, this tool can also help monitor your laptop's temperature and fan speed.

4. Run HP Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly during startup to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool.
  • Select the Component Tests option, then choose Fan to test whether the fan is functioning correctly.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Ryzen007,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS by pressing F10 repeatedly during startup.
  • Look for any settings related to fan control or cooling (usually found under "Advanced" or "Power" sections). Some BIOS versions have a built-in fan test.

6. Stress Test Your Laptop

  • Run a CPU or GPU-intensive task, such as playing a video game or running a benchmark tool like Cinebench or Prime95. If the fan is working correctly, you should hear it spin up as the laptop's temperature increases.
  • Monitor the laptop's temperature using software like Core Temp or HWMonitor. If the temperatures are consistently high (e.g., above 80°C) without the fan spinning up, there might be an issue.

7. Physical Inspection (Advanced)

If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you can physically inspect the fan:

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect all power sources.
  • Remove the back panel following the instructions in the laptop's maintenance manual.
  • Check for dust accumulation or obstructions around the fan and clean it gently with compressed air.
  • Visually inspect the fan to see if it looks damaged or if the blades are obstructed.

What to Do If the Fan Is Not Working Properly

If you find that the fan is not functioning as expected, it may need to be cleaned, repaired, or replaced. If your laptop is still under warranty, consider contacting HP phone for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
