Hi there 😄

 

I got an EliteBook 2560p, with an i5-2520M. I was thinking to upgrade to an i7-2670QM or a 2620M. I know it is an older machine but I want it as a storage computer for the most part that's powerful and has a lot of storage by swapping out the optical drive dummy to a drive caddy. But, point is, does the 2670QM runs without stability issues or thermal throttling and is it indirectly compatible with this laptop? And please, don't give me answers that are promptly easy to be rendered as useless. Just tell me from your own experience with your own EliteBook 2560p and if you tried this upgrade or not. Otherwise, I will not consider your answer. Thanks, and have a good day

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

 

I got a very similar legacy laptop, an HP ProBook 6560b, which I upgraded to an i7-2860QM -which is the best available 45-watt TDP processor for this laptop, and it has been running great with zero thermal issues:

So, to answer your question: yes, your laptop is compatible with all 45-watt TDP processors, including the i7-2670QM and the i7-2620M, up to an i7-2860QM.

I see you're an expert here, and I'll be honest, thanks for not getting me through the stuff of "Check your HP laptop's supported cpu sheet" or crap like that which fills the forum for no reason. And, thanks for the info, I'll screenshot it so I don't lose it. Have a good night from my country.
