Hello everyone. I have a laptop HP 17-cn3002ci /7P563EA. I want to install a 2.5" HDD in the laptop. What is the adapter part number? Do I also need a hard drive cage?

@MadRepairer,

According to the service manual (on pages 41-42), the hard drive cable's part number is M75893-001.

Maintenance and Service Guide

Amazon and eBay carry the cable.

See this HP video. The hard drive replacement procedure starts at 6:30. Apparently, no brackets are used to secure the hard drive to the notebook. The hard drive just sits tight in the compartment.

I bought it on Aliexpress. The cable has 10 pins, but the hard drive connector on the motherboard has 8 pins. How so?

I checked a couple of hard drive cables that reference the part # M75893-001, and they have 10 pins.

The service manual from which I got the part # is for 17-cn1xxx, as there's no manual for your 17-cn3xxx.

I wonder if HP switched the motherboard connector to 8-pin ones for your 17-cn3xxx. That seems to be unlikely. . .

Anyway, I guess what you can try is to find and use an 8-pin connector cable.

I found this 8-pin cable on eBay. A tiny PC board sits atop the connector, and I don't know if this fits in your model.

Check with AliExpress, eBay and Amazon for an 8-pin cable.
