Hi,

Your PC should support a M2 SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo or many other brands as long as it is SATA3. First you need to check if the slot is present on the motherboard as sometimes HP notebooks which did not come with M2 SSD are missing the physical slot on the motherboard.

On page 45 of service manual you can see how to remove the bottom cover:

If the slot is present you can insert an M2 SATA3 SSD. You will need to reinstall the OS on the SSD.

Let me know if you need further help,

David

Dear David,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply!

I read the manuals and I found following details.

Page no. 19 of user's manual mentioned  Solid-state drive board 924992-001 , Solid-state drive bracket 924981-001 with Iteam no. 20 & 21. does it mean it has a slot to hold SSD?  just asking because I am afraid to open the back cover of brand New laptop in arrival of 1 hour 🙂

Thank you very much for your support,

jiggy

What you see on page 19 is the drive board and bracket to install an M2 SATA3 drive instead of the mechanical drive you have in the PC at the moment. However there might be another slot as seen in the picture I posted above.

If the slot is not present what you can do is replace the 2.5" mechanical drive you have at the moment with a 2,5" SATA3 SSD (that way you do not need to buy board and bracket for an M2 drive).

I know it is not easy to open a new computer, however you will need to eventually if you are planning to upgrade the PC yourself. (at least it will be a little practice)

Hope it helps,

David

Hi @jiggy02

Sorry it took a while to get back to you. As you can see the PC has the M2 slot which is great, as it means you can install an M2 SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860 evo and keep the mechanical drive.

Basically what you need to do is put the new SSD in the PC, remove the hard drive, install Windows on the SSD, put the old drive back in and remove the Windows partition on the mechanical drive.
