Hello all!

I have a severe problem with my HP notebook.

Since three weeks (after upgrading to the latest BIOS?) my internal extension SATA SSD is getting disconnected all the time.

I run my OS and all programs on  M.2 and all data on the SSD.

So what I did until now:

- tried the disc with an external USB case, works without any issue -> SSD is physically OK

- put it back to the HP SATA connector, again it is available for about 5 minutes, then gets disconnected

- changed the internal SATA connection cable, same problem persists -> cable is OK

- when powered up and Win10 is running, I physically disconnect SSD from SATA connector, and connect it back again, it is available again for some time (like you plug in an USB device), suddenly disconnects again after few minutes.

- ran ALL tests on HP diagnosis tool (8.0.1.0), everything went fine, all tests successfull!

- when running HP System Information (ESC on boot), both discs are shown up (ATA and NVMe) and are OK

- all updates loaded (HP/Windows)

- Windows tells me "Intel Rapid Storage techonology - SATA disc removed"

Is there a way to have a BIOS fallback to  01.16.00? (would this help anyway?)

I am lost and have no clue what to do, please help me!

Thanks so much

Thomas

Do you use this storage driver 17.5.2.1024 Rev.B ? Check the device manager. You probably find a newer one at Intel

I did a fallback to 16.x.x.x (just in case that this might be the problem), but I updated again to 17.5.2.1024 Rev.B. now

Still the same behaviour.

Sometimes it takes longer until it disconnects (10 minutes) sometimes immediately after booting up. (???)

Updated the firmware of the SSD now, but still the same 😞

What does the device manager show when the drive gets disconnected?

Did you check Intel for a new driver?

run these 2 commands in cmd (admin)

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

sfc /scannow

- Device manager shows disc, when it is connected - does not show disc when it gets disconnected, like it should be

Device manager OKDevice manager OK

- If you mean the Intel driver you suggested before, yes, this is the last one available.

When checking the Intel driver and support assistant it shows the following:

intel_hp.JPG

and for the discs it shows the Microsoft driver (is this correct?)

M.2M.2

Crucial SSDCrucial SSD

- Ran the two commands, everything seems to be OK

This is so strange, when the disc is available, everything looks perfect, all tests are OK, also the Crucial tool for SSD shows no problem at all. So it is definitely not the SSD I assume.

Now it works already for 20 minutes, so there is no indicator when it goes offline...

In device manager go further down to Storage (Speichercontroller) and check the AHCI driver.

Is it possible that you have a temperature problem. Turn the Laptop by 90° so that the monitor is on the desk and the keyboard in a vertical position. Then you have more cooling air.

HP Recommended

In device manager, I don't see AHCI (?)

and system is running now for 90 minutes and temperature seems to be no issue

Here it shows also the correct driver and disc is still available now for already 90 minutes 🙂

I am afraid of restarting....
